The Start Of Something

THE START OF SOMETHING

When Ty put me to bed, I didn’t think there would be any way I would be able to sleep. I was out before she closed the door. Now, I was awake and wondering what I would do next. I didn’t have clothes, a place to live, or even a car to drive. I wanted to stay in a bed that slept like a cloud and disappear. But life had to happen. I knew Davis wasn’t done with me, but I needed to figure out how to get off his radar. I didn’t want to move; my family lived here, Lisa was here, and now Ty, who I wasn’t sure what would happen with, was here as well.

I wanted her. Last night proved we could work, and the silent way she supported me today let me know this could work between us. But what sane person would want to start a relationship with a woman whose house was set on fire by her stalker. My thoughts were interrupted by the sight of Mommy and Daddy coming through the door of Ty’s bedroom. I hadn’t had a chance to tell my parents about Ty. I didn’t know what my father would say or do. Mommy could be diplomatic, Daddy not so much.

“Is she asleep?” That was Mommy; she said it in a quiet voice.

“Yes, ma’am. I haven’t come in to wake her yet.” I thought it would be a good time to let them know I was awake. I went to shift to wake up when Daddy spoke.

“You seeing my daughter?” His voice made me stop moving; I was frozen. What would she say?

“I met Sierra about a year ago, a few weeks before she met the man who’s now stalking her. I was interested in her then. I didn’t pursue it because she wasn’t comfortable with me being a woman. I wish I had pursued it,” Ty said with regret in her voice, and I wished she had pursued it as well. I couldn’t imagine where my life would be now if she had. I didn’t know what my father would think of this admission, but I didn’t have to wait long.

“Well, girl, I know for a fact that the girl I made is a catch, so you should have done whatever you lesbians do to make her like you. Hell, I like you already. My girl is sleeping after seeing every damn thing she worked for in ashes. That means she trusts you, so take care of it. This son of a bitch has been bothering her for a while now, and she wasn’t sleeping. I know that because when she did let me see her, she had bags under her eyes. So, now that I see her sleeping, I don’t care that you’re a woman. You keep my girl happy. Let me sit in that damn hot tub you got and watch the Broncos on that big-ass TV, and I would be really happy.
